Arts Advocacy image
My plan for my platform has definitely evolved since the beginning of my journey, and I am sure that it will continue to evolve as I continue my advocacy. What impact can a driven, art-obsessed high schooler make? I have traveled throughout the state, advocating for arts education. I have spoken of change within funding control to more educators than I can count on my fingers. (Yes, that is more than 10) It's time to face this as a nation. As the modernization of our country continues, the further arts are regarded as "secondary subjects." If "Simon Says" has taught me anything, it's that when a leader creates change, people would follow. We need to encourage educators and administrators to create change! My advocacy has been supported by educators statewide. I have spoken to lawyers, AssemblyMembers, mayors, superintendents and more, hoping to encourage them through my personal passion. This change starts with you. You can change our world and your future. How has art shaped your life? Did you enjoy making crafts as a kid? Did you pretend you were a rockstar... singing with a hairbrush, playing air guitar? The arts have created change in everyones life even if they don't notice. It is time. No more cutting photography courses, choir, or orchestra. No more denying the passion of students in our nation. I have created a nation-wide Arts Advocacy Social Media Campaign. Students and educators send me videos presenting how arts education has shaped their lives. My campaign runs from May 1, 2016- July 1, 2016. I am asking you to spread awareness. Take a video of yourself, your little cousin, your great grandma. Take a video of anyone presenting their appreciation towards the arts. Send it to me at misscontracostacounty@gmail.com and you will be shared on my social media platforms. Enter this knowing that you are part of a movement bigger than yourselves, bigger than anyone. I want to thank you for your support. None of my advocacy would be able to launch without your guidance. Let's make change.
